DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY & HISTOLOGY
The department deals with the teaching and research on Gross Anatomy, Histology and Embryology of most of the domestic animals and birds with salient characteristic anatomical features of wild and zoo animals . The department offers 15 Credit Hours courses spread in two academic years (4 semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during first and second year of the degree programme. The department is also offering supporting post-graduate (M.V.Sc.) courses. Embalmed cadavers are used for dissection. The Histology laboratory is equipped with automatic tissue processor, binocular microscope, trinocular research microscope, semi motorized rotary microtome, cryostat microtome etc.
Osteological researches are carried out on collected bones of Slow Loris , sloth bear and sambar deer from the State Zoo of Mizoram. An Intramural Research Project entitled “ Gross Anatomy & Histomorphology of Respiratory System of Indigenous Pig of Mizoram ” with Dr. R.N. Bhattacharyya as Principal Investigator have been submitted and preliminary works for the project have been completed.
